Thank you for visiting the Kilbride Vendéens site.

Our aim is to provide the ideal working Vendéen rams for today's requirements.

The Vendéen breed of sheep originated in the west of France (Vendée), an area exposed in several parts to the full force of the Atlantic weather systems.  They are a hardy breed having a good covering of thick, tight wool over their body and head.  The lambs are born with this wool covering and are therefore somewhat protected from the elements from birth.  They are quick to get up and suckle and the ewes are good mothers. often giving birth to a high proportion of twins or, occasionally, triplets.  They are a very docile breed and the rams are extremely eager to work making them an ideal choice as terminal sires.

Cross-bred lambs are quick to finish with deceptively high kill-out rates.

Here at Kilbride Vendéens we subscribe to the ICBF LambPlus Eurostar Scheme and details of all lambs are registered with ICBF at birth.  Figures for these animals can be viewed on the LambPlus website.  All animals in the flock presented for sale can be scrapie genotyped prior to purchase if required.

All rams presented for sale are either Category 1 (ARR/ARR) or Category 2 (ARR/ARQ).

If your first contact with us is online, we would be very pleased to hear from you! Please let us know what your needs and questions are, we will be more than happy to help.
